CapMed launched the first commercial personal health record in the mid-1990’s, and continues to play a vital role in advancing PHR technology and the public policy surrounding the concept. CapMed launched the patent-pending Personal HealthKey in 2003 for secure portability of health information on a key chain by using USB flash disk technology. CapMed distributed over 600,000 PHRs in 2006 and in 2007 launched its Online PHR completing the PHR suite of tools as a fully hybrid solution, with three interchangeable formats.
