Bio-Imaging Technologies To Participate In Annual HIMSS Conference In Dallas February 13-17

NEWTOWN, PA, February 10, 2005 -- Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. (“Bio-Imaging”) (NASDAQ/NMS: BITI) today announced that its CapMed Division, the cornerstone of Bio-Imaging’s new Personal Health Management Division, will be showcasing its personal health management solutions at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) 2005 Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas, February 13-17. This event is touted as the “must attend” conference each year in the health information technology industry. An estimated 20,000 professionals and 700 exhibitors are expected to attend.

CapMed’s core products, the CapMed Personal Health Record™ (PHR) software and the Personal HealthKey™, as well as the new MedicAlert® HealthKey™ will be exhibited and demonstrated at CapMed’s booth (#6918). In addition the Personal HealthKey will be demonstrated at the following locations:

  • SanDisk, CapMed’s hardware vendor for the HIMSS show
  • GE Healthcare as part of their consumerism promotion.

In addition, CapMed will participate in the Conference’s interoperability showcase. The showcase will demonstrate how clinicians can use interoperable electronic health record (EHR) products and standards to share patient data. The showcase will illustrate this in 4 settings: the home, a small clinic, a multi-specialty practice, and a diagnostic center. A Personal HealthKey branded to CapMed and NextGen Healthcare Information Systems will be distributed by CapMed at the Interoperability Showcase.

At the showcase, attendees will be able to create and manage their own sample electronic health records, including Continuity of Care Records, radiology images, laboratory results, cardiology reports and the information infrastructure to support security. Attendees will then visit select vendor exhibit booths to access or create additional content for their records and see how different companies incorporate Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)-and thus interoperability-into their products. In CapMed’s home section, attendees will be able to upload glucose readings from a glucose meter and a blood pressure monitor into their PHR and onto the Personal HealthKey, just as an individual managing a chronic condition at home would do, and will then be able to communicate this information along with any additional self-tracked information via the CapMed secure hub and with the portable HealthKey device to the other participating vendors in this showcase.

Additionally CapMed will be demonstrating the ability for attendees to send and receive Continuity of Care Records from physician record systems through the secure hub or via a USB port using the Personal HealthKey. CapMed will also enable attendees to securely receive and store an ECG in medical diagnostic quality to the patients PHR, tied to the cardiac condition for which it relates, and linked to pertinent patient education.

CapMed’s Personal HealthKey fits on a key chain and is a simple, reliable, secure and cost-effective portable solution for people to easily take specific health reports or their entire medical record, including images, anywhere. The HealthKey plugs into a computer’s USB port, allowing doctors and patients easy access to the patient’s medical record without the need for additional hardware or software, and is line with HIPAA guidelines by enabling the patient to encrypt and password protect as much or as little of their medical record as they would like.

The PHR is an award-winning, cost-efficient software application that enables users to manage and store personal health information, including their medical images, on the privacy of his/her desktop computer, while linking directly to sponsor-directed resources such as drug information, patient education, or disease guidelines. This award-winning program is an industry leader with more than 400,000 distributed.
