The CAC is comprised of industry and policy experts who will provide leadership and direction on the emerging personal health management industry and personal health record (PHRs) market. The council will meet at least three times per year and will provide insight on the CapMed product direction and a holistic market strategy to support the creation and adoption of interoperable, consumer-centric solutions that drive consumer empowerment in the healthcare industry. Today's announcement underscores CapMed’s commitment to facilitating the creation of Personal Health Record solutions that are consistent with and complementary to the various health information technology initiatives that are being developed across the country,” said Wendy Angst, general manager of CapMed. “By seeking out the wisdom of industry experts and combining it with the strategic direction of CapMed, we continue to demonstrate our leadership position on interoperable, consumer-centric personal health management solutions. Members of the council are experts in health information technology, with strong backgrounds in personal health management solutions. Charter members include: Missy Krasner, MA, senior strategy consultant. Prior to consulting, Ms. Krasner served as Senior Advisor to David J. Brailer, M.D., Ph.D., the nation’s first National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Dr. Brailer was appointed by President Bush in May of 2004 and was charged with developing a plan for nationwide adoption of interoperable health information technology. Ms. Krasner was also involved in the design and launch of the Santa Barbara Care Data Exchange, the nation’s fist Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO). Ms. Krasner has over 15 years of product marketing, communications, and public affairs experience in the healthcare industry. She specializes in healthcare policy and health information technology with a core interest in consumer engagement strategies and personal health records (PHR) development. Daniel Z. Sands, MD, MPH, chief medical officer (CMO) and vice president of clinical strategies at ZixCorp. Prior to that, he was the clinical systems integration architect and clinical director of electronic patient records at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. An acclaimed international leader in clinical computing and patient and clinician empowerment through the use of computing technology, Dr. Sands has achieved a wealth of industry awards. In 1998, Dr. Sands received the President’s Award from the American Medical Informatics Association, an organization in which he now serves on the board of directors. In 2003, he was elected to the American College of Medical Informatics and was granted an IT Innovator award by Healthcare Informatics, and in 2005 he received a Leadership Award from AMIA and was elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians. Paul Tang, MD, an Internist and VP, Chief Medical Information Officer at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, a Sutter Health affiliate. Dr. Tang is chairman of the board for the American Medical Informatics Association and is a member of the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) Health Care Services Board. He chaired a recent IOM patient safety committee which authored two reports: Patient Safety: A New Standard for Care, and Key Capabilities of an Electronic Health Record System. He is a member of Markle Foundation’s Connecting for Health Steering Committee and its Personal Health Technology Council. Dr. Tang was named an Innovator of the Year in 2003 by Healthcare Informatics and an Innovator and Influencer in 2002 by Information Week. He received the 1998 CPRI Nicholas E. Davies Award for Excellence in CPR System Implementation.
